Phnom Penh’s Traffic Conditions are Improving

By April 20, 2018 News Feed

The transportation in Phnom Penh has been quickly improving for the last few years. From the taxi booking apps, the public transportations, to the infrastructure, here are the useful transportations you may want to take while in Phnom Penh.

Taxi, Tuk Tuk:
For the last few years, metered taxis and Tuk-Tuks have become popular since the taxi booking apps such as Grab and PassApp have launched. These apps are so easy to use, and the driver comes to the location you’ve set on the map, so you don’t necessarily need to be able to speak Khmer. If you’d need a taxi from Bodaiju, according my experience, the drivers would usually come in less than 10 minutes. There are still many cruising moto bikes and Tuk Tuks on almost every corner of streets too.

The number of Meter Tuk Tuks is quickly increasing

Train (The Airport Shuttle Train):
On 10th April. 2018, Phnom Penh Airport Train launched the first railway service from the airport to the city center. The service is now free of charge until the end of July. It takes about 30 – 40 minutes from the Phnom Penh International Airport to the Train Station in the city center. After the trial period and new trains arrive, the trip would take shorter, less than 30 minutes.

Phnom Penh Public Bus service has increased its route from 3 to 8 last year, and the new buses are air-conditioned and clean. In order to take a bus to go to the city center, the nearest bus station from Bodaiju is located on Russian Blvd, near the airport, and this route 03 goes from the airport to the Central Market, Night Market, and the Riverside. If you don’t know where the bus stop is near you, the free App called “Stops Near Me Phnom Penh Bus” can be helpful. This app shows the every bus routes and the bus stops on the map, and also you can live track where the bus is running.

The nunmber of city bus has quickly increased.

The completion of overpass (flyover) bridges has changed the Phnom Penh’s traffic condition a lot for the past few years. One of the new overpass has been completed on Russian Blvd, between the city center and the Phnom Penh International Airport, to reduce the heavy traffic around the intersection of Russian Blvd. and Hanoi Blvd.

The newly completed overpass called “Sky Bridge”.
